once in awhile, i hear a song that just takes me away. i just lie in bed and stare at the ceiling and drift out of my life. i don’t even know where i am. someplace where the leaves change colors and where the night shines brilliantly in snow and moonlight. i’m just lying there, and somehow minutes feel like hours and i could be there forever. that’s where the melody takes me, and i always wonder if i’m alone in it or if someone, somewhere, shares this reverie with me.
john freaking mayer. i love that in his music, he never just says ‘this is heartache and this is how it feels.’ instead, he describes how it is to the eyes, to the ears, to the touch. the lines are so literal and yet there’s such bittersweetness to them. i think it’s just beautiful.
last week i watched bella and today i saw the trailer for this film. it’s so refreshing to see stuff like this being made, films that are beautiful as an art form and yet deeply rooted in a grim reality. i think sometimes we try so hard to understand complicated issues with facts and figures that we forget about the heart. documentaries can bring a certain level of awareness but i think these films have the human touch that just might push that awareness into something more. perhaps there’s still hope for hollywood yet. :)
